The Technical Entry Scheme (TES) is a direct entry scheme offered by the Indian Army for engineering graduates to join the Army’s technical branches as officers. TES allows candidates to serve in various technical roles, such as in communications, electronics, mechanical engineering, and aviation, contributing to the operational efficiency of the Indian Army. This scheme is an excellent opportunity for those who wish to serve in the Army while applying their technical skills and knowledge.
The candidate should be between 16.5 and 19.5 years of age at the time of applying.
Candidates must have passed their 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as the main subjects.
Additionally, the candidate must have qualified the JEE Main exam (this is for 10+2 candidates).
Engineering graduates (who have completed their degree or are in the final year) can apply for TES without needing to qualify the JEE exam.
The candidate must be a citizen of India.
Nepalese and Bhutanese citizens may also be eligible under certain conditions.
Candidates must be unmarried at the time of joining the training academy.
Candidates must apply through the Indian Army's official recruitment website during the notification period. The Army announces the TES entry through recruitment notifications, generally twice a year.
The Army shortlists candidates based on their 10+2 marks and JEE Main exam scores (for 10+2 students). Only those who meet the required cutoff are eligible for the next round.

After the successful completion of the SSB interview, candidates are subjected to a medical examination to ensure that they meet the required physical and medical standards for Army service.
A merit list is prepared based on the SSB interview and medical examination results. Those who rank high enough in the list are selected for the final phase of training.
The selected candidates undergo training at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun.
The training duration is typically 1 year and is designed to equip candidates with the necessary military knowledge, physical fitness, and leadership skills.
During this training, cadets undergo rigorous physical training, military drills, weapons training, and tactical exercises.
After successful completion of training at IMA, the officers are commissioned into the Indian Army as Lieutenant and are posted to various technical branches.
They are deployed based on their specialization in fields such as electrical, mechanical, aviation, or communication engineering, and contribute to the operational aspects of the Army.
A mechanical engineering student who has completed their 12th grade with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics can apply for TES. After successfully qualifying the JEE Main exam, the student is short-listed based on their academic performance. The candidate then undergoes the SSB interview and clears the medical examination. Upon selection, the candidate proceeds to the Indian Military Academy (IMA) for a one-year officer training program, before being commissioned as an officer in the Indian Army's technical branch.
TES allows candidates to directly join the Indian Army without the need to go through conventional competitive exams like CDS or AFCAT.
