A person can file an RTI (Right to Information) application under the Right to Information Act, 2005 in the following way: 1. Identify the Public Authority: Find out which government department or public authority holds the information you need. 2. Write the Application: The application can be written in English, Hindi, or the official language of the area. It should include: - Full name and address of the applicant - Details of the information sought - The subject matter clearly - Period for which the information is needed (if applicable) - Application should be addressed to the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the concerned department 3. Submission Method: You can file the RTI application through: Offline: - Submit by hand or send it by registered post/speed post to the PIO - Use a plain sheet of paper—no specific format is mandatory under the Act Online: - Visit [https://rtionline.gov.in](https://rtionline.gov.in) (for central government departments only) - Register, fill in the form, and make payment online 4. Fee Payment: - ₹10 application fee (can be paid in cash, postal order, demand draft, or online) - Below Poverty Line (BPL) applicants are exempt from the fee (proof required) 5. Acknowledgment and Time Limit: - The PIO must reply within 30 days (or 48 hours if the matter concerns life or liberty) Important Notes: - No reason or justification is required to be given in the application - Separate applications should be filed for separate subjects
